HLM MEANINGFUL LIFE DEVOTIONAL

Day 4: *Worship and Love May Look Like Waste to Others*

Acts of extravagant love and worship, like the woman who poured costly perfume on Jesus, may be misunderstood or criticized by others as wasteful. Yet, Jesus sees the heart behind such actions and calls them beautiful and prophetic. True worship often requires us to ignore the opinions of others and focus on honoring Christ with what we have, knowing that nothing given to Him in love is ever wasted.

Matthew 26:7-13 (ESV). *A woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table. And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? For this could have been sold for a large sum and given to the poor.” But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial. Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”*

*Reflection:*
Is there an act of love, generosity, or worship you’ve been hesitant to do because of what others might think? What step can you take today to honor Jesus regardless of others’ opinions?

Day 3: *Pain and Trials Can Be Redeemed for Others’ Blessing*

Our pain, trials, and even failures are not meant to be hidden or wasted. When surrendered to Christ, they can become powerful testimonies and sources of comfort for others. Just as Jesus did not waste His suffering on the cross, we too can allow God to use our brokenness to bring healing and encouragement to those around us. Sometimes, the very thing that caused us the most pain becomes the means by which we minister to others, turning our trials into blessings for generations.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (ESV). *Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.*

*Reflection:*
Who in your life could be encouraged or helped by a painful experience you’ve gone through? How might you share your story or offer comfort to them this week?

Day 2: *Stewardship—Let Nothing Be Wasted*

God calls us to be faithful stewards of all He entrusts to us—our time, resources, talents, and even our pain. Jesus Himself instructed His disciples to gather the leftovers after feeding the five thousand, saying, "Let nothing be wasted." This shows that God values every gift and opportunity, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. We are challenged to reflect on how we use what we have, ensuring that nothing is squandered but everything is offered back to God for His use and glory.

John 6:12 (NIV). *When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.”*

*Reflection:*
What resource, talent, or opportunity in your life have you been neglecting or underusing? How can you intentionally use it for God’s glory this week?

Day 1: *God Brings Purpose Out of What We Call Waste*

There are moments in life when experiences, investments, or even years seem wasted—times of unanswered prayers, broken relationships, or lost opportunities. Yet, in God's eyes, nothing surrendered to Him is truly wasted. He is able to use every season, every pain, and every so-called loss for a greater purpose, weaving them into His plan for our good. Even what we call wasted years or efforts can become a blessing when placed in His hands. Trust that God is working through all things, including what appears to be waste, to bring about His glory and your growth.

Romans 8:28 (ESV). *And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.*

*Reflection:*
What is one area of your life that feels wasted or pointless right now? Can you surrender it to God today and ask Him to reveal or bring about His purpose in it?

Day 5: *Stepping Into Your Purpose—Refusing Complacency*

God has placed greatness inside of you, and there are people and destinies waiting on the other side of your obedience. Refuse to be comfortable or complacent; instead, rise up and push past whatever is holding you back. Your breakthrough is not just for you—it is for the generation and the people God has called you to impact. The change you desire begins with you, and as you step into your purpose, God will release what has been held back and use you to bring revival and transformation.

Philippians 3:13-14 (ESV). *Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

*Reflection:*
What step can you take today to move out of complacency and actively pursue the purpose God has placed in you? Who might be waiting on the other side of your obedience?

Day 4: *There is a Price for Purpose—Embracing the Process*

Every calling and every anointing comes with a price, and that price often involves pain, pressing, and perseverance. Just as Hannah’s pain led to the birth of Samuel, and Jesus’ suffering led to our salvation, your process is preparing you for something greater. The journey may involve loneliness, misunderstanding, or even betrayal, but God uses these seasons to refine you, strip away self-reliance, and draw you closer to Him. The deeper you go with God, the more you realize it is not about your strength, but about His power working through you.

James 1:2-4 (ESV). *Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.*

*Reflection:*
What is one area where you are feeling the “price” of your calling? How can you choose to embrace the process and trust God’s refining work in you today?

Day 3: *Sealing Your Breakthrough with Worship and Surrender*

When God answers our prayers, it is vital to seal our breakthrough with worship and a heart of surrender. Hannah’s story shows that true breakthrough is not just about receiving what we desire, but about dedicating it back to God and worshipping Him for who He is. The process of surrender—giving God our desires, our pain, and our victories—opens the door for Him to birth something of lasting value through us. Worship is the seal that acknowledges God’s sovereignty and keeps our hearts aligned with His purpose.

Romans 12:1 (ESV). *I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.*

*Reflection:*
What is one answered prayer or area of your life that you need to intentionally surrender back to God in worship today?

Day 2: *The Power of Humble, Persistent Prayer*

Breakthrough comes not just from being present in God’s house, but from coming before Him with a humble, surrendered heart. Like Hannah, we may go through the motions for years without seeing change, but when we pour out our hearts honestly and humbly before God, refusing to let our emotions or pride get in the way, God is moved. True transformation happens when we stop relying on our own strength and approach God as King, with reverence and brokenness, ready to receive what He has already prepared for us.

*Reflection:*
In what area of your life do you need to shift from self-reliance or pride to humble, persistent prayer before God? What would it look like to approach Him as your King today?

Day 1: *Pushing Past the Pain to Find Purpose*

Pain and suffering are often unavoidable, but God calls us to push past our pain because there is purpose and victory waiting on the other side. When we focus too much on our pain, it can become an obstacle or even an idol, distracting us from God’s presence and His plans for us. Instead of letting pain define us or keep us stagnant, we are invited to trust that God is working through every circumstance—even the ones we don’t understand. The pain you are experiencing is not wasted; it is part of the process God uses to bring you into your destiny and to birth something greater in your life.

*TEXT TO READ: 1 Samuel 1:1-20*

*Reflection:*
What pain or disappointment in your life have you allowed to become an obstacle to your faith or purpose? How can you surrender it to God today and trust Him to bring purpose out of it?

Day 5: *Consistency in Seeking God Brings Lasting Peace*

Consistently seeking God through prayer, humility, and obedience is the key to enjoying lasting peace and rest on every side. The examples of Jehoshaphat, Hezekiah, and Asa show that when God’s people sought Him wholeheartedly, He gave them victory over their enemies and peace in their land. Even when battles arise, letting God take over and remaining steadfast in your relationship with Him ensures that you will not be overcome. Stay consistent in your walk with God, seek Him in every situation, and trust that He will fulfill His promises and give you all-around rest.

2 Chronicles 14:7 (ESV). *And he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the Lord our God. We have sought him, and he has given us peace on every side.” So they built and prospered.*

*Reflection:*
How can you make seeking God a consistent part of your daily routine, especially when life feels overwhelming or uncertain?
