HLM MEANINGFUL LIFE DEVOTIONAL

Day 3: *Embracing God’s Pursuit in Our Wandering*

Even when we turn away, God’s grace relentlessly pursues us. Throughout history, God has sent warnings, messengers, and circumstances to call His people back to Himself. His love refuses to let go without a fight for our souls. This persistent grace is not to be taken lightly; it is an invitation to repentance and restoration. God’s providence ensures that even in rebellion, there are reminders of His mercy and opportunities to return. Recognizing this relentless pursuit should inspire hope and motivate a response of honest repentance, trusting that God’s mercy is greater than our failures.

Exodus 34:6:  *“The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.’”*

*Reflection:*
Reflect on a time when you felt distant from God—how did His grace pursue you, and how can you respond to His persistent call today?

Day 2: *Recognizing the Fragility of Borrowed Faith*

It is possible to appear faithful while merely reflecting the convictions of others around us. Joash’s downfall reveals the danger of a faith that is borrowed rather than personally embraced (2 Chronicles 24). When the external influence of a mentor or community fades, such faith collapses, exposing the need for a genuine encounter with God through Christ. This calls for honest self-examination: Is your faith truly your own, or are you living off the spiritual capital of others? Borrowed faith may sustain for a season, but it cannot withstand trials or seasons of testing. The challenge is to cultivate a faith that is deeply personal, resilient, and anchored in a living relationship with Christ.

James 1:12:  *“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.”*

*Reflection:*
In what ways might your faith be more dependent on others than on your personal relationship with God, and what step can you take today to deepen that relationship?

Day 1: *Anchoring Faith Beyond Mentors*

Faith shaped by mentors must become deeply personal and rooted in God alone through Christ Jesus. Spiritual mentors and leaders play a vital role in guiding and nurturing believers, much like Jehoiada’s influence on King Joash (2 Chronicles 24). Their presence can ignite passion and provide direction, but this external support is not a permanent foundation. When mentors are no longer present, faith that depends solely on their influence risks faltering. True spiritual growth requires moving beyond imitation to a conviction that is owned and lived out personally. This means allowing God to anchor your heart so that your trust in Him stands firm regardless of external circumstances.

Deuteronomy 13:6-8a : *“Moreover, if your brother, a son of your mother, or your son or your daughter or the wife you embrace or your friend who is as your own soul entices you secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ … you shall not yield to him or listen to him.”*

*Reflection:*
Who has God placed in your life as a spiritual mentor, and how can you begin to take ownership of your faith apart from their influence today?

Day 5: *Faith Manifested in Actions*

Our faith in Jesus Christ should be evident in our actions, influencing how we treat others and the decisions we make. By using our influence for good and taking initiative, we demonstrate the transformative power of Christ in our lives. The centurion's realization of Jesus' divinity at the cross (Mark 15:39) serves as a reminder that we can be close to Jesus Christ yet fail to fully grasp His worth. We are called to honor Jesus in life and death, using our influence for good and taking bold actions in faith.

James 2:17-18 (ESV):  *"So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, 'You have faith and I have works.' Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works."*

*Reflection:*
How can your faith in Jesus be more evident in your actions today? What is one specific way you can use your influence for good in your community?

Day 4: *Loyalty and Devotion Beyond Convenience*

True loyalty to Jesus Christ extends beyond convenience and continues even in difficult times. The examples of Joseph of Arimathea and the women who followed Jesus' body to the tomb demonstrate unwavering devotion, reminding us that real love and faithfulness require sacrifice. We are called to remain loyal to Jesus Christ and His church, using our influence for good and taking bold actions in faith, even when it is inconvenient. Our devotion to Him should be evident in our actions, reflecting the love and compassion of Christ to others.

Mark 15:42-43 (ESV):  *"And when evening had come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath, Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus."*

*Reflection:*
In what ways can you demonstrate loyalty and devotion to Jesus, even when it is inconvenient? What sacrifices might you need to make to remain faithful to Him?

Day 3: *Courage to Stand for What is Right*

Joseph of Arimathea's decision to provide his tomb for Jesus' burial exemplifies the courage required to do what is right, even when it goes against the crowd. His bold action was a reflection of his faith and devotion to Christ. As believers, we are called to take similar bold actions that reflect our commitment to Jesus, even when it is inconvenient or unpopular. Our faith should motivate us to stand for what is right, using our influence for good and making a positive impact in the world around us.

Luke 23:50-51 (ESV):  *"Now there was a man named Joseph, from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man, who had not consented to their decision and action; and he was looking for the kingdom of God."*

*Reflection:*
What is one area in your life where you need to take a bold stand for what is right? How can you draw on your faith to find the courage to act?

Day 2: *Recognizing the True Value of Jesus Christ*

The contrasting examples of the chief priests and the woman who anointed Jesus with costly oil highlight the importance of recognizing Jesus' true worth. While the chief priests were blinded by envy (Mark 15:10), the woman demonstrated profound devotion through her act of worship. Her understanding of Jesus' significance was a testament to her faith, even when others misunderstood her actions. Similarly, Judas Iscariot's betrayal for thirty pieces of silver serves as a warning against undervaluing Jesus. We are called to value our relationship with Him above all else, recognizing its eternal significance.

John 12:5-6 (ESV):  *"Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor? He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it."*

*Reflection:*
How do you demonstrate the value you place on your relationship with Jesus in your daily life? What is one specific way you can show your devotion to Him today?

Day 1: *The Transformative Power of Resurrection*

The resurrection of Jesus is not just a historical event but a living reality that continues to impact believers today. It is the cornerstone of our Christian faith, affirming Jesus' divinity and offering hope to all who follow Him. Unlike other religious leaders who remain in their graves, Jesus' empty tomb is a powerful testament to His victory over death and His ongoing presence in our lives. This resurrection power is available to us, enabling us to overcome challenges and live transformed lives. No matter what circumstances we face, we can find hope and renewal in the resurrection of Jesus.

1 Peter 1:3-4 (ESV):  *"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you."*

*Reflection:*
In what area of your life do you need to experience the transformative power of Jesus' resurrection today? How can you invite His resurrection power into that situation?

Day 5: *Reflecting on Personal Faith*

Reflecting on what Hosanna means to us personally involves examining whether we have truly asked Jesus to save us or if we are merely seeking quick fixes for our problems. Our worship should be a genuine expression of our faith, acknowledging Jesus as our King, Savior, and Lord. This reflection calls us to align our hearts with His purposes and desire salvation every day of our lives, ensuring that our faith is not just a superficial response but a deep, personal commitment.

2 Corinthians 13:5 (ESV):  *"Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!"*

*Reflection:*
Take a moment to examine your faith today. Are there areas where you need to deepen your commitment to Jesus as your Savior and Lord? What practical steps can you take to strengthen your faith?
